Solidago lepida D. C.

Plant

Both goldenrod species are medium-sized herbs with an erect, firm stem and dense, yellow blossoms located near the top of the stem. The lance-shaped leaves of Solidago lepida are sharply fine-toothed in contrast to those of Solidago multiradiata, which are also lance-shaped but have a smoother margin. The two species of this late-flowering plant grow in Kodiak’s meadows and other open habitats.

Medicine: Alutiiq people report that using goldenrod as a steam bath switch relieves gas and cramps. Some switch with the fresh or dried plants to relieve aches and pains. The moistened plant can be placed on a woman’s stomach and then the stomach massaged to ease menstrual cramps or to promote menstruation.
