This model kayak was crafted by Larry Matfay, who gave it to Ben Ballenger upon his retirement from the ADF&G. Ballenger donated the model to the Kodiak Historical Society in 1987, and upon Matfay's death in 1998 it, along with other artifacts created by Matfay, were transferred to the Alutiiq museum collection at the request of his estate.
