From Wickersham collection, from Ferry Museum, Tacoma, WA. Basket has been coated with linseed oil before coming to the museum. Design is a variation of "the tail of the snow-tail (arctic tern)" See Paul, Spruce Root Basketry, #8, p. 52.
Spruce root basket. Cylindrical, with slight flare. Spruce root with false embroidery of yellow grass. Design is three yellow bands of triangles and straight lines. Three rows of parallelograms held together with straight lines between them. This decoration covers the upper two-thirds of the basket. Below, at regular intervals, are stitches of yellow false embroidery.
