Originally requested in 1976 by Sudie Burnham for Aleut Learning Kit to illustrate basket construction methods. Curator Steve Henrikson determined in 2002 that the object had increased value due to the name of the weaver, so would be appropriately retained as part of the permanent collection rather than of the Education collection.
Beginning of a grass basket. A flat central disk of twined beach grass, appx. 7/8" diameter, with strands of grass extending radially appx. 6".
