Alutiiq Museum To Host Artists’ Bazaar - December 2, 2015
Artists will be selling their work directly to the public at the Alutiiq Museum’s annual holiday bazaar, scheduled for Saturday, December 5. Visit the Alutiiq Museum between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm to shop at tables in the museum’s gallery, browse new merchandise in the museum store, enter your name for door prize drawings, and participate in a cookie potluck and a split the pot raffle. Museum members are invited to come an hour early, starting at 10:00 am.
Twelve artists, both local and visiting, will participate. They will sell Alaska Native and Alaskan jewelry, fashion accessories, bath and body products, prints, handmade fur items, ornaments, carvings, sculpture, books, and baked goods. The Alutiiq Museum Store has also been stocked for the holidays, with a new selection of masks, scarves, jewelry, and Jerry Laktonen’s very popular paddle ornaments.
“We had over 300 people stop by last year,” said Gallery Manager Dana Haynes, the organizer of the event. “We expect a similar crowd this year, especially as artists have been very generous in donating items for door prizes. We will be giving away prints by Marion Owen, Alutiiq nesting dolls by Hanna Sholl, a book by Stacy Studebaker, sea otter earmuffs by Susan Malutin, earrings by Nannette Foster, notecards by Cathy Cordry, a sculpture by Jenny Alford, and some of Candace Branson’s homemade fudge! Thank you to Scott’s Heating for helping to sponsor the event.”
