Medium: Beaded Pouches, Fused Glass Beads
Michelle Mullan, known to many as "Misha", has been working with arts and crafts most of her life. Born and raised in Afognak Village in the 50's and 60's, she is a descendent of the Mullan, von Scheele, Gregorioff, and Chernikoff families. Her grandfathers, Herman von Scheele and Barney Mullan, settled in Afognak to raise their families and she is grateful for that. According to Misha, "Afognak is a very beautiful, spiritual, serene, artistic, natural environment."
"All this creativity was handed down to me at a young age - beginning with embroidery," says Misha. "My love of beads and glass has been part of me for quite some time. I've attended classes in glass fusing, lampworking, and metalsmithing at the Arrowmont School, Appalachian Center for Crafts, and John C. Campbell Folk School."
Misha creates mostly contemporary styles and incorporates beads, glass, leather, ivory, baleen, Afognak rocks, fish skins and fur into her works.
