A one-to-four-foot branching herb with leaves that clasp the stem and give the plant a twisted appearance. It’s also called watermelon berry for it oblong, watery, red fruit with many small seeds gives it the name watermelon berry. The plant grows in moist woods, alder thickets, and meadows throughout the Kodiak Archipelago.

Food: Eaten as found but not harvested in quantity.
