Gwen Sargent

Raven Shadow Fine Art

Gwen Sargent is a Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) artist, born and raised on Kodiak Island. At the heart of Raven Shadow Fine Art is Qalngaaq — the Raven of Alutiiq stories. “One tale tells how Raven brought light to the world . . . ” Raven is a complex figure, like we all are. Gwen’s art lives in that space where shadow and light meet — where beauty and struggle coexist.

Her creative practice is a way of honoring Raven — the one who brought light and saw possibility in the dark. Gwen creates to bring light to others, just as Raven did — a reminder that even in the shadows, light is always present.

She designs whimsical earrings and acrylic paintings inspired by the land and sea, using fish skin, sea glass, and ocean imagery. Whether it’s a joyful mermaid painting or a traditional-inspired pair of earrings, each piece is a gift of cultural resilience and joy. Through her work, Gwen brings forward the voices of her ancestors and the textures of her homeland — making space for cultural continuity, creative freedom, and the dance between light and shadow.
