Ashley DeHart

Ashley Tungaqguk DeHart is an Alutiiq artist from Akhiok and Kodiak, who has fond memories of summers spent at fish camp in Olga Bay. She began her journey as an artist with instruction from Elder June Pardue. Since those first lessons, she has been practicing—teaching herself and improving her skills by working. She feels a connection with her Alutiiq ancestors when she beads and sews. “I feel like I can best express myself through what I make. I enjoy making art because it helps me heal.”

DeHart sells her artwork through her online business, Nunaq Medicine and Beads, and through the Alutiiq Museum Store. She also participates in sales events like the Koniag Annual Meeting and the 2018 Indigenous Comic Con in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 2017, she received a second place award for a southern plains style beaded regalia set at the Chickaloon Tribe’s annual health fair held at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fair Grounds in Palmer.
