Medium: Carving, Sculpture

Rolf Christiansen

Rolf Christiansen, known to many by his nickname Ralphie, is a life-long resident of Old Harbor. He is the son of Sasha Alexandria Christiansen, an Alutiiq woman, and Rolf Lee Christensen Sr., a Norwegian. Christiansen loves to work with his hands and explores as many raw materials as possible, from driftwood and animal hides to beads and paint.

He learned to carve by working with community Elders and by experimenting. He enjoys making traditional paddles, masks, and dart sets.

Christiansen sells his artwork through his business, Red Raven Creations, and at Kodiak retailers that include the Native Village of Afognak and the Alutiiq Museum Store. Examples of his work have been purchased for the collections of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, the Kodiak Area Native Association, and the Old Harbor Native Corporation. He is also a contributor to the Old Harbor Scholarship Foundation’s Labor Day auction.
