Amelia Simeonoff

Medium: Beading, Skin Sewing

Amelia Simeonoff

Amelia Simeonoff, a Sugpiaq artist, was born in Kodiak and is from Nuniaq (Old Harbor). Her parents and grandparents taught her the importance of showing respect for the land its resources. She has fond memories of family fishing and harvesting wild foods.

Amelia has always expressed herself through artwork and is sure her grandmothers, her great-great grandmother, Fedosia Inga, and her ancestors are proud to see the Alutiiq/Sugpiaq culture is thriving. Her ancestors’ use of trade beads and furs are inspiration for her pieces. She creates with many materials including salmon skin, fur, beads, and cloth. Her work includes beaded headdresses, cultural headbands, wristbands, jewelry, and kuspuks.

Amelia is grateful for the Elders and their knowledge. She continues to learn more about her heritage and the ways her ancestors lived healthy lives, while thriving off the land. Amelia shares her knowledge, teaches others, and sells her work through her online business, Sugpiaq Creations.
