Alexandria Troxell

Medium: Beading, Skin Sewing

Alexandria Troxell

Alutiiq artist Alexandria Troxell has been making artwork over 25 years. She learned to bead in middle school, during a culture week in her hometown of Old Harbor, Alaska. Since then she has learned many additional techniques and expanded her skills by experimenting.  She is a self-taught skin sewer who works with seal and sea otter fur to make mittens, mukluks, and headbands.

For Troxell, artwork is relaxing, and her family provide inspiration for her work.  “They always receive the first of everything that I create,” she said. Troxell’s jewelry and skin sewing can be found in the Alutiiq Museum Store, at craft shows, and farmer’s markets.  She also donates items to local fundraisers.
